Nonsurgical procedures are becoming more and more popular due to lack of downtime, incisions, stitches, and scarring. One of the most popular nonsurgical treatment options today is CoolSculpting, a body sculpting procedure that uses cooling technology. We have put together an overall explanation of everything you need to know, below.

The Discovery of CoolSculpting

Some years ago, two Harvard scientists, Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD, observed that some children who ate popsicles got dimples in their cheeks. They realized that popsicles were freezing and eliminating the small pockets of fat cells in the children’s cheeks. The scientists discovered that cold can target fat cells without damaging the skin and surrounding tissues and called it cryolipolysis. CoolSculpting is based on this proven science.

How CoolSculpting Works

CoolSculpting safely delivers controlled cooling to gently target the fat cells under the skin. These fat cells are crystallized and then die. Over time, your body will naturally process the fat and eliminate it from your body, resulting in a slimmer and more sculpted you. Plus, once fat cells die off, they cannot regenerate, meaning that results are long-lasting.

What to Expect

During your first visit, you will meet with a CoolSculpting expert to discuss your goals for reshaping your body. A personalized treatment plan will then be created to help you meet your aesthetic goals. For some individuals, a treatment plan may include multiple CoolSculpting treatments. During your treatment, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the treatment areas. The CoolSculpting applicator will deliver controlled cooling to freeze stubborn fat cells. During your procedure, you can feel free to read, check your emails, or even nap! After your treatment, there is no downtime required, so you can feel free to return to your everyday activities as soon as you feel comfortable! Oftentimes, patients even return to work right after their CoolSculpting treatment is finished.
